Ryan took out the Stiletto to test its handling and speed at Bandemer Park in Ann Arbor. We purchased this board for the all around use of racing and touring. With the dimensions of 12'6" x 30" wide, the Stiletto offers excellent stability and ample volume at 290 liters to support leisurely paddle. With Jimmy Lewis' patented sandwich construction, this board offers some flex as it is not the typical stiff carbon fiber race board. The board also offers a recessed deck pad lowering the center of gravity of the rider for more stability. The board performs superbly in our conditions and is extremely light and fast for a 30" wide board. There are also lash downs on the front deck for storing your gear for a long day trip or overnight weekend trips. This is truly one of our favorite new boards currently in stock.
A lot of people have been asking us at Treetown Boards about inflatable SUPs and how easy it is to travel with them. On a recent trip down to the Baja peninsula of Mexico we packed two Jimmy Lewis inflatable stand up paddle boards, a Maestro Air at 10'3"x33" and a Stiletto Air at 12'6"x29". We documented the process and have some good pointers for anyone thinking of flying with their inflatables.
Overall, flying the inflatables out of the country was pretty easy and economical. They arrived at their destination and back home in great shape. Next time I would get another large size rolling duffle to pack the Maestro in. Even though it is a shorter board, because it is wider, it takes a bigger bag when rolled up. Probably one that is at least 36"-38" long, would fit well. Having our own equipment was amazing. The Jimmy Lewis inflatables were far superior to some of the rental equipment that was available. We used our boards almost every day to explore new places. The versatility of the inflatables was great, and the fact that they fit with additional luggage into a small sized rental car was even better. Anyone thinking of traveling to destinations with water should strongly consider grabbing a pair of these boards. We saved money on rentals, the size of the car we needed, and space. Both inflatable models also work great back home in Ann Arbor, with all the flat water paddling around town. Anyone living in a apartment, condo, dorm room, or other tight living quarters could easily store these boards out of way for use around town, and basically all over the world. If you have any specific comments or questions about traveling with inflatable boards please feel free to reach out to us via email or comment directly on this post. We have both inflatable models currently for sale. If you are interested in trying one out before you buy, email us to set up a free private demo. I know the weather in Michigan does not currently resemble the tropical landscape of this post, but summer is right around the corner. With miles of pristine sand beaches there is no end to places you can paddle here. We really liked Platte Bay as you could look both ways down the beach and not see another person for miles. We were even lucky to catch a downwinder back, nothing like catching some bumps to enjoy the day paddling on the big lake.
Yet another amazing park for paddling. You could paddle the small lakes or float the river with your board. We chose the Big Lake and a 3.2 mile round trip paddle to the lighthouse. Highly recommend the Pines campground here. Great facility with the dunes leading to Lake Michigan right behind the campground.
We have been lucky to have some amazing sunset paddles. We highly recommend Muskegn State Park with its beautiful sand beach.
SUFTC event was a huge success. Thank you to all our customers, supporters, and fellow paddlers we met at the event.
